About Orlando Arena
Additional Financial Arena, once known as CFE Arena and UCF Arena, is a sports and entertainment venue located in Orlando, Florida. It lies on the main campus of the University of Central Florida. Construction began on the venue in 2006 as a replacement for the original UCF arena. It was set to be part of Knights Plaza and is currently the home to the UCF Knights men’s and women’s basketball teams. It is also the arena for the Central Florida Crusaders Indoor Soccer team.
The arena today stands at 252,000 square feet with a capacity of over 9,400 fans for basketball events. It has 17 luxury suites and it’s attendance record demolishes its capacity with 10,011 for a sold-out March 22, 2017 NIT Quarterfinals matchup. Besides sports, the venue has also been used for a variety of other events including the annual Science Olympiad in 2012 and 2014. The venue has also been used for highschool graduations and KnightThon, a dance marathon that raises money for Children’s Miracle Network.
Soccer Team Summary
The Central Florida Crusaders is a member of the National Indoor Soccer League (NISL). The team was established in 2022 and is one of the latest addition to the league. They play their home games out of Addition Financial Arena The team has a men’s and women’s team, the latter of which won their first win of the season even while losing multiple players due to injury. This includes not having a goaltender and having to use former midfielder Bridget Callahan to mind the net.
The NISL
The National Indoor Soccer League is a recently formed league that began play in 2021 in the Southeastern US. The league fields men’s and women’s divisions and announced a partnership with Nike on March 24, 2021.
The Mepmphis Americans were announced as charter members of the new NISL on April 29, 2021. They were then joined by the Fayetteville Fury, the Columbus Rapids, and the Rome Gladiators for the inaugural season.
The following season saw the addition of the Central Florida Crusaders as well as the Tampa Bay Strikers.
